Richard Ghiasy

LAC Senior Fellow Richard Ghiasy is an advisor and researcher on Asian geopolitics and geoeconomics, often revolving around China and India’s foreign policy. He also examines EU strategic interests in Asia, international security affairs, and connectivity. In his 17-year career, he has provided policy advice to inter alia the EEAS, European Commission, Government Ministries across Europe and Asia, the OSCE, UNDP, and OECD. Frequently, his work has a conflict preventive nature.

A persuasive speaker, in 2013 Richard presented at TEDx. He has testified at the European Parliament on Afghanistan and regularly presents at the world’s top 20 universities. Richard has developed a distinct cultural intelligence and intellectual nuance, honed by professional travel in over 75 countries and by having been based in seven countries across Europe and Asia.

Former SIPRI, Richard is also a Subject Matter Expert at The Hague Centre for Strategic Studies (HCSS); and a member of the Belt and Road Research Platform, the Stockholm Observatory for Global China at the Swedish Institute of International Affairs (UI), the European Commission’s Asia-Pacific Research and Advice Network (APRAN); and the Dutch Government’s Network on China (CKN).
