China and the Industrial Internet of Things
Expansion of the Internet of Things (IoT) is among the defining technological trends of the 21st century. For over a decade, China has promoted the development of the IoT as a strategic priority. In this, China has given special attention to the IIoT, or Industrial Internet of Things, which is the use of digital networks to optimise industrial processes.
This report, written by LAC’s John Lee, provides an overview of the policy context for China’s IIoT development and its relationship to current policy goals. It examines the state of China’s IIoT sector, analyses IoT security management by the Chinese state, and discusses the implications from a European perspective. In light of these challenges, the report offers recommendations for European policymakers to respond effectively.
