The Legal Protection of International Organisations’ Data
The research for and production of this report has been conducted within the framework agreement for the China Knowledge Network (CKN). The aim of CKN is to promote strategic knowledge development about China for the national government of the Netherlands.
This study deals with the legal protection of international organisations’ data that may be stored in China. It is part of a research project on the impact on Dutch data security of data storage in China. One of the main lines of this research project is the question to what extent China-based data storage by the UN meets Dutch/EU legal requirements with regard to privacy and cybersecurity. The data of Europeans transferred to the United Nations is likely to be stored in China or to be entrusted, as part of a cloud offer, to a Chinese service provider.
