The rise of China is an established fact. So too is the increasing impact that a more powerful and confident China is having on the rest of the world. China’s diplomacy is at the centre of the controversy about its role in international politics. Beijing’s interaction with the rest of the world provides a window on how a rising China practices diplomacy and how it presents new challenges.
On 20 May 2021, LeidenAsiaCentre and The Hague Journal of Diplomacy held a seminar on “The Recalibration of China’s Diplomacy”. This panel discussion with contributors from China and the West marked the launch of the HJD special issue on “China’s Global Diplomacy”.
