Carwyn Morris
Carwyn is University Lecturer (Assistant Professor) of Digital China at Leiden University. He has a PhD in Human Geography and Urban Studies and a background in cultural consultancy and brand strategy. Carwyn’s research focuses on the urban effects of China’s digitalization; Activism and social movements related to China; Chinese migration; Chinese social media; China’s development of digital sovereignty and a digital territory.
Carwyn is Principal Investigator of the European Research Council project, CHINA.EU, which examines the role of Chinese capital, Chinese digital technology, and Chinese social media in European cities. The project is particularly focused on European cultural economies, including the fashion industry, tourism industry, restaurant industry, and the art industry. It examines so-called ‘Golden Visa’ residence through investment schemes as well as the European cultures emerging around Chinese multinationals and social media.
