‘The China Smart State Podcast’ is a new podcast is produced by the LeidenAsiaCentre in association with the DigiChina Project at Stanford University and is co-financed by the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ Cyber Task Force. The monthly show discusses the digital transformation of China in all its complexities. How does this transformation affect the politics, economy and society of this rapidly emerging cyber power? The podcast is hosted by Rogier Creemers, Assistant Professor in the Law and Governance of China, with co-hosts Adam Knight, Linda van der Horst & Straton Papagianneas. Every month they invite different academics, journalists, and China watchers.

In this first episode titled “China’s Cyber Diplomacy”, Rogier Creemers and Linda van der Horst are joined by Nigel Inkster, Senior Adviser on Cyber Security and China at the International Institute for Strategic Studies, and Camino Kavanagh, visiting senior fellow at King’s college London as well as a member of the UN advisory support team to the Chairs of two UN negotiating processes relating to cyber/ICT and international security. In this episode they discuss the cyber diplomatic landscape and China’s approach to cyber diplomacy.
