LeidenAsiaCentre director Florian Schneider cited in SCMP news article on the PLA’s efforts to speak to a younger generation
The South China Morning Post published an article titled “Can Chinese military’s hip new propaganda strike chord with Generation Z?”, for which they interviewed LeidenAsiaCentre director Florian Schneider. The article discusses how the Chinese armed forces’ propaganda is being designed to speak the language of the younger generations, for instance by using memes and social media. Since weaponry has become more hi-tech, the PLA also requires more educated recruits. In the article, Schneider notes how that the Chinese approach is not that different from that of the United States armed forced, which has used similar “hip” propaganda means to attract young new recruits.
