Interview with Richard Ghiasy on the implications of the Digital Silk Road for the EU and India

The LeidenAsiaCentre has published an interview with senior research fellow Richard Ghiasy in which he discusses some of the main findings of the report “China’s Digital Silk Road – Strategic Implications for the EU and India”.

The LeidenAsiaCentre (LAC) and the Institute of Peace and Conflict Studies (IPCS), in Delhi, India, collaboratively run a project on China’s Digital Silk Road (DSR). The focus is on the challenges and opportunities that the DSR brings for the EU and India. Specifically, the project examines China’s expanding role in South Asia’s digital domain, particularly India, and in the EU, to identify:

1. The economic opportunities, and strategic and security challenges posed by the DSR and other Chinese digital investments

2. Convergences and divergences in digital priorities, concerns, and capabilities between the EU and India

3. Potential for EU-India digital cooperation

The report “China’s Digital Silk Road – Strategic Implications for the EU and India” comprises part one of two parts of the collaboration and deals with the opportunities and strategic and security challenges posed by the DSR. The second publication will cover convergences and divergences in digital priorities and capabilities between India and the EU and India-EU digital cooperation.
