Experts meeting for the project Slaves to the System

On January 8, the LeidenAsiaCentre organised its first ‘Experts Meeting’ for the project; Slaves to the system: researching North Korean forced labour in the EU.

A selected number of participants from various organisations discussed a wide range of issues concerning the situation of North Korea’s overseas labour. In particular, key challenges and opportunities for compiling data and information with regard to the number and the nature of North Korean overseas labour were discussed. The participants agreed to work together to identify mechanisms to overcome current informational challenges and to obtain a realistic grasp of the situation of North Korean workers in Europe.
