Over the past few years, the digital realm has fragmented. Countries are raising borders to cross-border data flows, economic security is a new buzzword driving ever more ambitious digital policies, and global networks of financial, technological, commercial and political exchange are becoming increasingly frayed. A central element in these tensions is the emergence of China as a major digital player, and global responses thereto. At the same time, pandemic-related restrictions made engagement between Chinese and European specialists increasingly difficult. Now that travel is possible again, as part of an effort to “recouple” conversations between European and Chinese stakeholders, Leiden Asia Centre is organising a public panel with four Chinese experts to discuss Chinese perspectives on the new geopolitics of the digital world. They are:
– Lu Chuanying (Shanghai Institute of International Studies)
– Yang Fan (Xiamen University, currently a visiting fellow at Leiden University)
– Patrick Zhang (ByteDance)
– Chen Liang (Tuya)
