In recent years, LGBTQ+ politics have become increasingly salient in Japan, with growing domestic and international pressure for change.
Join us for an event where Emily Boon, junior researcher on contemporary Japan, will present insights from her latest report: “Contemporary LGBTQ+ Politics in Japan: Policy Issues, Discourses and Developments, and the Role of Foreign Actors”.
During the presentation Emily will discuss key findings from the report, such as a discourse relating to perceived “foreign interference” on the topic of LGBTQ+ politics in Japan, and cover the latest developments concerning marriage equality, the law for changing one’s legal gender, and anti-discrimination legislation.
