About Andhika Rutten

Andhika has developed expertise on Indonesia through a combination of research-oriented projects and field-based experience. This includes developing a documentary on smallholder farmers in the Indonesian palm oil sector, a sustainability consultancy traineeship in Indonesia, participation in intercultural dialogue programmes, and multiple visits to the country. These experiences inform her research interests in sustainability, social justice, and development in the Global South.

Alongside her research activities, Andhika is actively involved in bilateral networks between Indonesia and the Netherlands. She currently holds the position of Vice Chair of the Indonesia Nederland Society and previously served as Chair of the Indonesia–Netherlands Youth Society. INS aims to foster long-term cooperation and mutual understanding between both countries by connecting policymakers, academics, professionals, and civil society organisations, and by facilitating dialogue, public events, and institutional collaboration with embassies, research institutes, NGOs, and governmental actors.

In addition to her regional focus on Indonesia, Andhika has developed expertise in sustainability in corporate and organisational contexts. Shehas worked on strategic development, integrated reporting, and sustainability insights within multidisciplinary teams, with experience spanning organisations such as IKEA and KIT Royal Tropical Institute. Alongside her work at LAC, she is affiliated with CF Report, where she focuses on reporting and the strategic integration of ESG frameworks.

Andhika’s research interests include Indonesian foreign policy, social justice, diaspora engagement, and the application of strategic foresight in international cooperation. A specific focus is placed on public–private and multi-stakeholder governance arrangements, examining how research at the intersection of business, government, and non-profit actors can contribute to more effective, inclusive, and sustainable policy responses to contemporary societal challenges.

She holds a bachelor’s degree in Sociology from Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, including a minor in Indonesian Studies at Leiden University. She subsequently pursued a master’s degree in Culture, Organization and Management at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam.
