The Leiden Asia Centre provides high-quality, expert-led training programmes and workshops for government, business, media and other organizations seeking to deepen their understanding of Asia and to respond more effectively to regional developments. Our sessions combine academic expertise, practical insights and interactive formats, enabling participants to engage with Asia’s geopolitical, economic and societal dynamics in a clear and applicable way.

Whether strengthening Asia-related policy capacities, improving regional risk awareness, or enhancing cultural and political understanding, our programmes offer informed, research-based guidance grounded in the latest developments across East, South and Southeast Asia.
Our current training programmes
Regional Course Asia
This three-day course introduces participants to the political, economic, and security dynamics shaping East, South, and Southeast Asia. Through lectures and moderated discussions, participants gain a structured understanding of regional developments and how these influence Dutch and European interests. The programme supports civil servants working on Asia portfolios across government.
India Masterclass
The India Masterclass provides an overview of India’s domestic developments, economic trajectory, and growing international role. Participants explore topics such as governance, digital transformation, geopolitical positioning, and areas of cooperation relevant to the Netherlands. The course equips civil servants with the context needed to engage effectively with India in their policy work.
China workshop for journalists
This workshop supports journalists seeking deeper insight into China. It covers key political, economic, and societal developments, examines framing and sensitivities in reporting, and introduces practical OSINT and online research methods. The programme equips media professionals with tools to interpret and investigate China-related news with nuance and accuracy.
