Gerben Nooteboom

Gerben Nooteboom is Professor of Anthropology and Development Studies at Radboud University Nijmegen, specialising in social inequality, rural transformation and climate-related change in Southeast Asia. With more than two decades of research experience in Indonesia, he examines how communities navigate environmental, economic and social transitions. Trained in Rural Sociology and International Development Studies, he previously taught at the University of Amsterdam and served on the board of EuroSEAS.

About Gerben Nooteboom

Gerben Nooteboom is Professor of Anthropology and Development Studies at Radboud University Nijmegen. His work focuses on social welfare, poverty, and inequality in relation to ecological and agrarian change, climate adaptation, and sustainable development. With over twenty years of research experience in Southeast Asia, particularly Indonesia, he combines anthropology with an interdisciplinary approach to understand how people adapt to social and environmental transformations.
