Floris Harm is the Executive Director of the Leiden Asia Centre, where he leads the organisation in advancing research and public understanding of contemporary Asia’s political, economic, and societal dynamics. In this role he oversees the administration of research projects, strategic communication, and serves as a key spokesperson for the Centre’s work.
Before joining the Leiden Asia Centre in 2023, Floris had a 30-year career in journalism, much of it focused on Asia. He was a China correspondent and held various editorial and reporting roles at NOS News, as well as serving as programme director and moderator at NOS Speakers’ Corner.
As an all-round communications expert, Floris has extensive experience in event moderation, course design and as a trainer.
Floris studied Chinese and Political Science at Leiden University and Peking University, grounding his professional work in deep regional expertise and fostering stronger connections between academia, media, and policy communities. With experience as a China correspondent for multiple Dutch print and broadcast outlets, transitioned back to the Netherlands in 1999. At NOS News, he served in various capacities, including TV editor, research journalist, radio reporter, and Asia specialist. From 2011 to 2023, Floris held the position of programme director and moderator at NOS Speakers’ Corner. Additionally, he served as the chairperson of the NOS Works Council.
