‘Aging Japan’ Closing Conference

Japan is rapidly aging. Currently, one in eight Japanese is older than 75, and predictions indicate that by 2030 nearly one-third of Japanese will belong to the elderly category. This rapid demographic shift is not an isolated Japanese phenomenon, but rather a sign of a global trend. The Netherlands, too, is faced with a growing elderly population.

Security and Human Rights: Japan’s Constitutional Revision Debate

Constitutional revision is high on the Japanese government’s agenda, with the ruling Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) adopting an action plan for change in March this year. A legacy of its defeat in the Second World War, Japan’s constitution renounces war and guarantees a broad range of human rights. It has never been amended.

Hoewel sociale media en Web 2.0 communicatie veel positieve effecten hebben op samenlevingen over de hele wereld, zorgen zij ook voor nieuwe risico's. Een hiervan is het makkelijker verspreiden van geruchten, complottheoriën en leugens. Sinds het Brexit referendum in het Verenigd Koninkrijk en de verkiezing van Donald Trump in de VS in 2016, heeft de mogelijkheid van valse informatie om politiek te beïnvloeden een nieuwe naam gekregen: 'nepnieuws'. Op 28 mei zal een panel van experts dieper ingaan op wat 'fake news' betekent in Aziatische context, en wat voor gevolgen het heeft.

3rd Asiascape: Digital Asia Conference (DIAS)
