Emma Burgers

Emma Burgers is a staff member at the LeidenAsiaCentre and works as an assistant researcher on the ‘China’s Role in Cyber Security’ project. She also worked on the project ‘How Asia Confronts COVID-19 through Technology’, for which she wrote a chapter on China’s application of digital technologies during the early stages of the corona pandemic.

Emma graduated summer 2021 with a master’s degree in Asian Studies: China at Leiden University. Her master thesis focused on Dutch digital diplomacy in China and the use of Weibo by the Dutch diplomatic mission. During her studies, Emma also interned at the Netherlands Foreign Investment Agency in Shanghai, and studied Mandarin for one year at the Beijing Language and Culture University.
