Expertise

Dr K. (Koen) De Ceuster has been a lecturer in Korean Studies at Leiden University since 1995. A historian of modern Korean, dr. De Ceuster has published widely on both South and North Korean affairs. His main fields of interest include the intellectual and socio-cultural history of modern Korea, historiography and the politics of memory in contemporary Korea, North Korean art theory and practice, and inter-Korean affairs. Amongst other publications, dr. De Ceuster co-edited (with Valérie Gelézeau and Alain Delissen) De-bordering Korea. Tangible and Intangible Legacies of the Sunshine Policy (Routledge, 2013), a study on the dynamic and diverse impact of inter-Korean rapprochement during the decade 1998-2008. He co-edited with Harry Tupan De Kim Utopie: Schilderijen uit Noord-Korea (WBOOKS, 2015), on occasion of the exhibition De Kim Utopie: Schilderkunst uit Noord-Korea, Drents Museum, Assen, 3 April – 30 August 2015.
