Upcoming project: Aging Japan

September 15 is Japan’s ‘Respect for the Aged’ day in honor of its elderly citizens. This year Japan will celebrate this day on September 19. Not such a bad idea as Japan is the world’s leading aging society. And since this phenomenon is seen as a forbear of a global trend, LeidenAsiaCentre aims at launching a study on aging in Japan. Together with a number of partners from society we are currently identifying our research focus, hoping to be able to start with the project early 2017.

Official launch of the Leiden Asia Year website

The provisional programme for the Leiden Asia Year in 2017 is now available. Rector Carel Stolker launched the new website at the opening of the Academic Year of Leiden University on 5 September. With the opening of the new Asian Library in September 2017, Leiden University want to emphasize its role as internationally centre of expertise on Asia. The LeidenAsiaCentre is one of the partners of the Leiden Asia Year 2017 and will help organize several events with a special focus on East Asia during this year.
